Promote Realistic Expectations
15 April 2020
In your online course marketing and promotion, as well as throughout the course, it is important to establish realistic expectations for your students. By establishing realistic expectations, you will maintain the student’s motivation.
What are realistic expectations when it comes to online courses?
Short online courses are designed to impart knowledge or teach a student a new skill. Short courses will not take a student from beginner to expert level within one course. Therefore, the expectation should not be that on completion of a course the student will automatically become an expert. This should be clearly communicated to the student, prior to registration, as well as throughout the course. You want the student to know that with practice and over time they can develop into an expert, the course will merely serve as a stepping stone towards becoming an expert.
Once you have established these realistic expectations, and a student has registered for and started your online course, the next step is to keep the student involved and motivated. How do you do this? Keep an eye out for our next set of online course tips.
